Welcome to the Reverse the Red Species Pavilion at the 2025 IUCN World Conservation Congress

We are so excited to welcome you to the Reverse the Red Species Pavilion at the 2025 IUCN World Conservation Congress.

Here you’ll find our full agenda, as well as resources and links that go along with everything you’ll hear our partners talking about during our discussions this week.

If you have any questions at all, please find someone in a Reverse the Red shirt in the pavilion or reach out at contact@reversethered.org

  • 30x30: A Guide to Inclusive, Equitable and Effective Implementation of Target 3 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework

This guide is intended to support governments and many other actors to contribute to the GBF's Target 3 in ways that are inclusive, equitable and effective. The guide introduces Target 3 and provides practical advice about planning and implementing the Target. The guide digs deeper into the definitions and concepts of Target 3, makes recommendations for how to integrate elements of Target 3 into National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans and on how to ensure Target 3 activities are also climate responsive.

Key Biodiversity Area Policy briefs - including the relevance of KBAs for the KMGBF

This link provides several PDF policy documents in four languages. Includes The Relevance of KBAs for the KMGBF; Benefits of making comprehensive KBA assessments; Conserving the right places; KBAs and the private sector; Scaling up Ocean conservation; Why are KBAs relevant for governments?

  • Conservation Status Improvement Guidelines

Reverse the Red’s Conservation Status Improvement Guidelines provide a blueprint for in-country conservation practitioners to reduce species’ risk of extinction while contributing to achieve forward progress to halt species extinctions under the GBF. This approach is a complement existing approaches and assist conservation practitioners who may be interested in aligning their strategies with recognized high level indicators, and amplify and multiply their conservation success stories.

    Reverse the Red Species Pledge

The Reverse the Red Species Pledge is designed to understand which organizations, groups, and agencies are committed to specific strategic recovery actions for identified species in specific countries. 196 countries have signed on to the Global Biodiversity Framework with specific commitment to Goal A and Target 4 - halting extensions, reversing declines, and recovering populations; plant, fungi, and animals. To achieve these targets, we need coordinated, strategic efforts from all partners and this Species Pledge is our first step to understanding which organizations are committing their skills, experience, and knowledge to participating in the recovery of specific species.

  • Global Species Action Plan

The Global Species Action Plan (GSAP) is a critical initiative developed to support the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), to address the increasing biodiversity loss worldwide. The GSAP outlines strategic interventions and actions to conserve and sustainably manage species while ensuring equitable benefits. Emphasizing the critical role of species in ecosystem stability, human livelihoods, and cultural heritage, the GSAP seeks to prevent extinctions, reduce threats, and ensure equitable benefits from species use. Implementation involves diverse stakeholders, including governments, Indigenous peoples and Local communities, NGOs, academia, and businesses, fostering cooperation at global, regional, and local levels. The GSAP underscores the collective responsibility to safeguard Earth’s rich biological heritage for future generations.

  • Reverse the Red Day - February 7

Reverse the Red Day is an annual celebration of all of the conservation work our collective community is doing to reverse trends of biodiversity loss - those shown through negative slides on the Red List of Threatened Species.

    World Species Congress

The World Species Congress, hosted by Reverse the Red, amplified our collective conservation efforts and facilitated critical connections to accelerate our impact for species.

  • WAZA x RtR Short Guide

The WAZA x RtR Short Guide: How your Zoo or Aquarium Can Join Reverse the Red and Halt Biodiversity Decline has been developed to provide clarity on the ways that zoos and aquariums can join Reverse the Red, contribute to species conservation and optimise the unique skills and reach of our community. We hope you will be inspired and join us.

  • The Big Fish Initiative Hub

The Hub is the main website of the Big fish Initiative and central online repository of information and resources for fishers, decision-makers and fish consumers to protect fish spawning aggregations, which are key to recover reef fish species. It offers videos, podcasts, scientific literature, information on fish species, fishing regulations, and best practices for protecting spawning areas. This hub serves as a central point for the campaign's main target audiences to access information and engage with the initiative's work.

    Treasure of the Caribbean

52-min film, central piece of the Big Fish Initaitive. It's a story of hope in troubling times. The discovery of a coral reef in Belize and Guatemala, larger than the size of Manhattan, marks a new chapter in understanding corals and fish that depend on each other and in saving coral reefs worldwide.

    Nassau Grouper Against The Clock

This short-film is a call to action to protect the critically endangered Nassau Grouper, a vital species for the health of Caribbean reefs, and a key food for local people. The good news is that this species can recover by protecting their spawning sites. No fishing, sales or consumption from December through March.
