Introducing the Global Strategy for Fungal Conservation

June 9, 2026 at 8:00am ET / 12:00pm GMT

Fungi sustain nearly all life on Earth. Yet they remain largely absent from conservation policy. That's about to change.

Join Greg Mueller (IUCN SSC Fungal Conservation Committee), Cátia Canteiro (SPUN/Kew Reach), and Rachel Hoffmann (Plantlife International) for a series of webinars introducing the new Global Strategy for Fungal Conservation (GSFC), the first unified, globally endorsed framework of its kind for fungi.

The GSFC complements the Fungal Conservation Pledge that was launched at the 2024 UN Biodiversity Conference (COP16) by Chile and the UK, in collaboration with the Fungi Foundation, by serving as the operational mechanism that aims to turn political commitment into concrete action. Developed by the Global Fungal Conservation Network and closely aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the Strategy sets out the conservation actions and research and infrastructure priorities needed to integrate fungi into conservation policy and planning, implementation, research, and investment decisions. It is the missing piece to ensure fungal biodiversity is protected, sustainably used, and equitably valued.

The Strategy launches for public consultation on 18 May. These webinars are your chance to learn how it was developed, what it proposes, and how you can shape it.
